My name is Marijke de Jong, founder of Straightness Training and the Straightness Training Academy, coach of several ST Instructors, and I live in Portugal since 2017, but I’m born in the Netherlands.
I believe that the world needs riders who have an amazing relationship and magnificant life with their horses.
A world without unnecessary suffering for horses and riders, because life’s too short to suffer.
That’s why I will share with you many of the concepts, tactics and strategies that helped riders across the world to overcome struggles, plateaus, setbacks, and challenges with their horses.
Because I deeply believe that you too can turn things around and make a positive difference for your horse!
Or, in case you’re not struggling:
No matter your dreams or obstacles, you have the power to be the change you want to see in the horse world!
In my ST Academy, I’d like you to meet like-minded Mastery students all across the world!
Because a lot of riders are ‘the only one’ doing Straightness Training in the riding arena…
Or at the barn…
Or in the city…
Or even in the country!
And that’s the wonderful thing about the ST Academy:
You’ll reach me and like-minded Mastery students all across the world, but you never have to leave home!
I believe in ‘together is better‘ and thanks to the internet we can do great things together!
We can build a world in which the vast majority of riders go home every day feeling fulfilled by training their horse!
I believe in a bright future and our ability to build it together.
Therefore, witht the ST movement I’d like to inspire people to do the things that inspire themselves and their horses.
And This Website Might Form A Useful STarting Point For You
A guide for those who are seeking information on how to ride and train horses!
It might be the start of your voyage of discovery in the fascinating world of Straightness Training.
It’s my mission to help you and other riders get what you really want with you horse.
I’d like to help you have a magnificant life together with your horse.
With free online videos, eBooks and other educational materials, I share my knowledge, experience, thoughts and insights.
And I explain the meaning, usefulness an appropriateness of the various gymnastic exercises to benefit your horse.
The goal is to have horses fit in body, mind, heart and soul into late life.
And in case we want to ride our horse: to give our horse the best possible physique to carry a rider no matter what their conformation.
Now, the challenge of Straightness Training is not about having the best moving horse but to get every horse we train and ride to move the best he can in the most healthy way.
We can start this challenge by asking ourselves the following questions:
- What can we do for our horse?
- How can we make a positive difference for our horse?
- How can we make an empowering impact on the life of our horse?
- How can we contribute to his overall well-being?
First of all: by recognizing the natural asymmetry of our horse.
On of my missions is to confront the global issue of unnecessary suffering because of forgotten knowledge about the horse’s natural asymmetry.
It’s mission is to create awareness about natural asymmetry and to spread the knowledge about how to deal with naturaly asymmetry to solve a lot of unnecessary stress and tension in both body and mind.
Dive Into The Forgotten Knowledge About Natural Asymmetry
My specialties are my knowledge about natural asymmetry in equine bodies and of course the solution to this:
To improve symmetry and balance in the horse’s body by using special exercises.
Now, natural asymmetry is not easily recognized by average riders
Therefore a lot of riders do not train their horse the best way possible.
And this could lead to several riding and behavioral problems…
I’ve been there, I know everything about these issues from the inside out, because I experienced it first hand…
Let Me Tell You My Story…
I met my complicated ‘first horse’ Maestro one day, the horse that was – in a way – handicapped by his natural asymmetry and the fact that this was not recognized before.
With this special horse, I started to travel the road of Straightness Training that lead us all the way to performing piaffe and more.
But more important, I succeeded in resolving Maestro’s asymmetry problem so that he could he was able to perform comfortably in all that he was asked to do.
Straightness Training is so much more than simply dressage.
It is a joy to travel this path all the way up to an exercise like levade, which I find the summum of Straightness Training so far:
It’s about balancing the horse on two legs, asking the springy hind legs to carry all weight instead of the already naturally heavy front end.
To be able to do all this with a horse like Maestro – once a horse that was misunderstood by humans and who did not understand what he was supposed to do at all – is wonderful.
Maestro and I have traveled such a long road, but we enjoy our performances in art together now.
When I thought about this, I realized that many more riders and horses could be helped and reach much higher levels than they now expect to be capable of!
This made me decide to start the ST movement to inspire people to do the things that inspire themselves and their horses.
And it made me develop this website:
It is designed for riders that want to discover everything about natural asymmetry and Straightness Training.
For riders who want’s to end unnecessary suffering.
Who want to make a positive difference for their horse!
Who want to have their horse mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually fit into late life!
Straightness training is for everyone
To pass on my knowledge and experience to other horse owners – who might even struggle with their own ‘Maestro’ – is very special.
And Straightness Training is not only for the high and mighty in dressage.
It is for everyone – it doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or advanced rider.
And it’s for every horse – no matter what age, breed or size.
I own and ride a Spanish horse, a Frederiksborger and Dutch Warmbloods, and hopefully a Lusitano soon! And my students bring along their own horses, every breed has passed the venue here, from Tinker to Icelandic Pony and of course many Iberian horses.
Everyone and every horse is welcome here.
And I hope this website will give you inspration and information for you and your horse!
Once you become involved with Straightness Training more closely, you’ll realize how important it is…
How easy it is to understand!
And you’ll experience that you can start your ST Journey by taking the first step >>
And them just continue with one step at a time!
At a pace that suits you and your horse best!
Happy Straightness Training and enjoy the process!
